DETROIT — The Red Wings have reportedly signed goaltender Jared Coreau to a one-year deal after a successful season in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Red Wings now have a large crop of goaltending options for all of their affiliates. With Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard the core of the Red Wings goaltending, prospect Jake Paterson will likely see time in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye.

The Detroit Red Wings today agreed to terms with goaltender Jared Coreau on a one-year contract. In accordance with club policy, additional details will not be disclosed.
Originally signed by Detroit as a free agent in April 2013 following a three-year collegiate career at Northern Michigan University, Coreau has split time in each of his professional seasons between the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins and the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. After posting a combined 1-16-6 record between the two clubs as a first-year pro, Coreau rebounded with a strong season for the Griffins in 2014-15, sporting a 16-8-1 record with a 2.20 goals-against average and a 0.927 save percentage. Among goaltenders who played more than 1,400 minutes, Coreau ranked ninth in the league in goals-against average and tied for fourth in save percentage. The 23-year-old also tied with Petr Mrazek for the Griffins lead with three shutouts this season and made his professional postseason debut during Grand Rapids’ first-round Calder Cup playoff series against the Toronto Marlies. He was also named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week on Feb. 2 after posting back-to-back shutouts on the road, stopping all 66 shots he faced.
The 6-foot-5, 235-lb., netminder also posted a 5-2-0 record with a 3.01 goals-against average and a 0.897 save percentage in eight appearances with the Walleye this season. Prior to turning professional, Coreau appeared in 76 games with the Northern Michigan Wildcats from 2010-13, owning a 32-31-8 record, a 2.72 goals-against average, a 0.919 save percentage and two shutouts. The Perth, Ontario, native also spent a season with the USHL’s Lincoln Stars in 2009-10, posting a 3.62 goals-against average and a 0.882 save percentage.
