Steve Yzerman continued to sign players for short term deals, this time inking a goaltender.
Thomas Greiss will join Jonathan Bernier in the Detroit net next season, signing a 2 year contract worth $3.6M a season.

Last year, Greiss appeared in 31 games for the New York Islanders, contributing 1.6 Standing Points Above Replacement, using Evolving Hockey’s WAR metric. For comparison, Bernier had a 4.4 SPAR, and Howard had a -3.4. He put up a .913 save percentage, for those of you who want to see traditional statistics.

This signing means that Detroit should have more stability in net than they did last season, and it doesn’t tie them to Greiss long term if he takes a step back from his recent season performances. Another good piece of work by Yzerman, in my opinion.
