Just hours after 2024 Red Wings training camp started, the team announced that star defenseman Moritz Seider has been signed a seven-year contract with an AAV of $8.55 million:
Seider was the only player who wasn’t accounted for when training camp opened this morning, and that was due to his contract status. Steve Yzerman has now signed all of his RFAs and everyone can get down to business and prepare for the 2024-2025 NHL season. The new contract locks Seider into a Winged Wheel until 2031, when he will be UFA eligible and just 30 years old.
Boy, I love it when I’m right! If you frequent WIIM, you may recall that I suggested that Seider’s contract would be done before or shortly after training camp started. Seider didn’t get an eight-year deal like Lucas Raymond, but a seven-year commitment is the second-best outcome. The new deal confirms the reports we have seen from insiders that Seider was unlikely to get the full term.
Now… DO THE MORITZ SEIDER TWEET!!!
