The deal is done — In the eleventh hour of negotiating ahead of NHL free agency on Monday, the Red Wings have signed Patrick Kane to a one-year contract extension:
According to Elliotte Friedman, Kane’s new deal is worth up to $6.5 million with a $4 million base.
Just weeks ago, it was almost certain that Kane would be leaving Detroit after scoring 47 points in 50 games in the regular season. Kane, who was coming off of a pretty serious hip procedure, signed with the Red Wings amid the 2023-2024 regular season.

This is huge news ahead of free agency opening on Monday. Detroit has cap space, but still needs to re-sign Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond, among other pending RFA.
