Red Wings terminate Filip Zadina’s loan to Czech Extraliga

It sounds like Filip Zadina will be headed back to North America soon, but not for the reasons most Red Wings fans would like to hear. His Czech team, HC Oceláři Třinec, announced on Twitter that the Red Wings ended the loan to reevaluate a preexisting injury.

This is tough news for the 21-year-old winger. Zadina had posted 14 points (8-6—14) in 17 games with his Czech club.

There is also the thought that the Red Wings are doing this to get Zadina over to North America to get him conditioned for the upcoming NHL season, which the league has yet to announce a start date for. As noted by the Detroit Free Press, players have already started skating at Little Caesars Arena, and every player with the exception of Moritz Seider and Joe Veleno are eligible to be recalled one the NHL indicates training camps can start. Seider and Veleno are not eligible for a recall until their SHL seasons have wrapped up.

Regardless, Zadina was playing at a good pace, so either something got re-aggravated, or the Red Wings are beginning to make moves to prepare for the season. This would mean that Filip Hronek would be right behind Zadina, but again, that’s nothing more than speculation on our part. We should note that the Free Press previously reported that both Hronek and Zadina would be recalled when the NHL gives the go-ahead for camp.
