The Scoop on Larkin

The Detroit Red Wings are fortunate to have some of the young forwards on their roster that they do. Dylan Larkin is in that group. He scored 17 goals adding 15 assists last season. He was tied for third on the team in goals and his 32 points was ranked eighth; obviously numbers he wants to improve.

Larkin is the obvious choice for the next face of the Detroit Red Wings. He has all the skill, tools and talent necessary to be the next Hockeytown legend. He is a special player and we are seeing evolve into a star right before our eyes, but he needs to have a special year for this process to continue right away.

Bounce Back Year

In his second year in the NHL, Larkin had the expected “sophomore slump” so he will be looking to have a bounce back season. Doing so will be key to the Wings success. As such, it was nothing to be concerned about. He scored only five fewer goals but had 13 fewer points than his rookie season. So it wasn’t a major drop down in production, he went from a plus 11 down to a minus 28 but it is a to be expected number for a team that struggled like the Wings did last season.

Larkin is good enough, where he should be at or near the tops of offensive stats this coming season.

Expectations For Next Year

Getting back to the basics and having fun is exactly what Larkin needs to do – just go out and improve his game day in and day out. He is apart of the next generation of great Red Wings and it would be a really cool moment to be able to look back and say he started to make his move towards a great Detroit Red Wing in the first year in the new arena.

The city is ready for these young forwards like Larkin to take over and dominate this Red Wing team night in and night out. If the team is to make the playoffs it will be because of the young forwards that stepped up and started to make it their team. They will need to be led by Larkin.

We should expect that Larkin, will be at the top of the teams scoring list with good numbers that improve on his rookie season and show that Larkin is in the process of taking that next step in his career. He will be key to the Wings success.

The expectations, they also continue remain high for Larkin and despite a small drop in production those expectations may even be higher than ever

We should see him become a consistent 20 goal scorer then elevate his game from there. He also will a part of a lethal one-two punch with Anthony Mantha. With Larkin to Mantha and vice versa for years to come, which is something special to watch.
