DETROIT, MICH — The Red Wings have announced that defenseman prospect Richard Nedomlel has been traded to the St Louis Blues for future considerations.

The former sixth round pick never really found success in the farm system, going back and forth between Grand Rapids and Toledo. Nedomlel is a big-framed physical defenseman, who really had no future with the Red Wings in terms of NHL minutes.
This does provoke some thought, though. Could this be a precursor to another move? We know that St Louis has been in talks with Tampa about Jonathan Drouin, and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk’s name has been tossed around. The Wings didn’t need the contract space, so it’s an interesting move. We’ll keep you posted on this. Could be something in the works.

Nedomlel, 22, appeared in a pair of games for the Grand Rapids Griffins this season and recorded a plus-1 rating and 20 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound defenseman also skated in 10 games for the Toledo Walleye this year and tallied two assists and 14 penalty minutes. The Prague, Czech Republic native spent the majority of the last two seasons in Toledo and recorded 11 goals, 21 assists and 206 penalty minutes in 109 games with the Walleye. Nedomlel was selected by the Red Wings in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
