Hey everyone! We interrupt our “summer sleep” to let you know that Hockeytown is returning to Detroit.
The fans voted, and the Red Wings announced in a social media video today that the iconic “Hey Hey Hockeytown” scripture has been placed at center ice of Little Caesars Arena. Check out the video:
“First, the center ice logo merges a redrawn version of the 1934 Winged Wheel with a modernized “100” design. The “1” and “0” also echo the curves of the original mark, rendered in the club’s red and vintage white color scheme. Paired with the classic Hockeytown wordmark, which was introduced in 1996, the special logo creatively honors the city and culture that have shaped one of the NHL’s most iconic franchises into what it is today.” Read more here.
Hockeytown will appear as part of the Detroit Red Wings Centennial: 100 Years of Hockeytown, which was announced in June. Starting this upcoming season, the Red Wings franchise will celebrate its history and legacy with various events, museum exhibit, and a Centennial uniform.
As for the center ice makeover, the Red Wings say that over 20,000 votes came in the first 72 hours after polls opened. Way to show out, everyone! The best way to follow this up would be a playoff berth.
