Keys to the Game
Key One: Larkin Leads the Way
Now that officially has the C on his jersey, all eyes will be on Larkin to see how it affects him. He’s already been the de-facto leader of the team for a little while now, but will the official status change his game at all
Key Two: Start Fast, Finish Strong
Every Detroit fan remembers how inconsistent the team’s play could be last season (and before that). It’ll be a strange feeling playing that opening period without fans, while Carolina has experience from the playoffs last year. Detroit needs to start right away and keep pressure on Carolina all game.
Key Three: Let’s Get Physical
This goes together with the previous key. I’m not saying start fights. I’m not saying take penalties. I’m saying throw some big, legal checks early on to get your forecheck going and to take control of the game. Last year, Detroit looked a lot better in stretches of games where they were taking the body well.
