Red Wings Win Preseason Opener Against Pittsburgh Penguins

Tonight was cool because hockey is back and we all love hockey so when hockey is being played we have good hockey feelings.

The Red Wings defeated the Penguins tonight, 2-1 off of two power-play goals from Tomas Tatar and Pavel Datsyuk. Specialty teams really paved the way for the Wings tonight. The Wings shutout the Pens’ PP completely. Jimmy Howard and Petr Mrazek both had extremely good outings, making big saves when the team needed them most. There was a point in the game where things started to get a little chippy, and we saw some questionable hits by both teams. Robert Bortuzzo is a piece of dog doo-doo and so is Bobby Farnham. Thankfully, Griffins captain Jeff Hoggan stood up for his teammate when Farnham threw a shitty hit at Xavier Ouellet. This is one of the only times I am okay with a player dropping the mitts.

You could definitely tell it was the first game of preseason.. The Red Wings spent the first 10 minutes of the game on their heels, trying to get the puck out of their zone. Pittsburgh was cycling around them pretty easily. Once everyone snapped into it, Detroit took advantage of some penalties and buried the puck twice. Personally, I think this new line of Pavel Dastyuk, Darren Helm, and Tomas Tatar is pretty magical. I think I don’t ever want it to go away.

I wasn’t able to get a good look at all the lines because for some reason my television was really choppy like it had a bad connection or something…
Also, Pavel Datsyuk took a hit from Rob Scuderi right at the end of the bench, where the glass curves around the boards. He walked down the tunnel by himself and did not return. I wish I could be more excited about the win, but I can’t. Not when I don’t know how Pavel is doing.

Anyways, good win. I’m sure Mike Babcock will have some words with some of the defensive pairings for not clearing their zone quickly enough.
For me, Jimmy Howard and Petr Mrazek are the stars. Good goalies, we have.

Look at this tweet, because I thought it was funny!

Good night folks.
Please be okay, Pavel.
