Reports: Red Wings Legend Gordie Howe has Died at 88
Gordie Howe, 1928-2016
Terrible news this morning: according to multiple reports, Red Wings legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Howe has died at the age of 88. Howe, affectionately known as "Mr. Hockey," suffered a major stroke in October 2014 and was in advanced stages of dementia at the time of his death. Howe's health improved sufficiently enough to allow a few public appearances, but he never appeared to fully recover.
The man eponymous with the sport itself played professionally in five different decades and never stopped representing hockey in the best possible light. His death was announced by his son, Marty Howe.
Rest in peace, Gordie.
