Three for Fabbri: Detroit 3, Dallas 2

First Period

Marc Staal gets a minor penalty for holding the stick. He’s complaining that he got hit in the face with the stick, but that’s because he was holding it.

Dallas gets a few chances, but the defense holds, and Bernier makes a good save near the end.

Mantha tries a flip pass to himself, and it nearly works. Dallas makes a good play to knock it away before Big Tony was able to break in alone on goal.

Dallas has a player from Michigan, and I look forward to hearing how he played with Dylan Larkin on a team when they were both 3 years old.

A near disaster! Detroit gave the puck away, and Alex Radulov had a wide open net, but just barely missed. I missed who gave it away live, on the replay it looked like it might have been Hronek. Not 100% sure though.

Blake Comeau plays the puck, and I cannot believe he is still in the NHL. I’ve been informed that it was in fact Hronek who gave the puck away. He should stop doing that.

Dallas is leading in shots 9-2 with 8 minutes left in the period, but it doesn’t feel that lopsided.

Two things happened pretty close to each other. Ty Dellandrea took a penalty, and Namestnikov got called for embellishment. Actually three things. We also learned that Mickey Redmond pronounced Uber “You-ber.”

GOAL! Anthony Mantha plays the role of Dylan Larkin from last game and drives the net before dropping to Robby Fabbri. Maybe it’s just me, but they should keep doing that.

Bernier makes a nice save off a good setup by Dallas. He made another good save a moment later. Detroit hasn’t been playing poorly, but Dallas has been able to better chances than the Wings want to give up.

Dallas has gotten away with some pretty clear penalties, but still no power play.

The period ends 1-0 Detroit, but Dallas outshot the Wings 13-4. It didn’t feel that lopsided, though.

Second Period

The first five minutes have some good back and forth play from both teams.

GOAL! ROBBY FABBRI! WHY NOT?

Fabbri beats Oettinger with a shot from way out. I think an actual otter would have had a better chance of saving that. A great goal for the Red Wings, but a really bad goal for Oettinger to give up.

In 13 days Fox Sports Detroit will become Bally’s Sports Detroit. Thanks, I hate it.

I need something to be happy about.

There we go. Much better.

With 7 minutes left in the period, the shots are 17 to 9 in favor of Dallas. But the score is 2-0, and that’s what counts. (But Detroit should get some more shots).

Stecher gets his stick in the face of Radulov, and Dallas goes to another power play. Detroit has yet to have one. For a long time, that would be a good thing, but lately that means the Stars haven’t had to face the power play juggernaut that is Adam Erne.

Bernier is down because of a collision, and everything is terrible. It looks like his knee, and this is awful. He goes out, and doesn’t put any weight on his right leg.

The period ends 2-0, but with Bernier out, it feels terrible.

Third Period

Thomas Greiss makes a save to start the period, but doesn’t hold the rebound, and a mad scramble ensues. This third period could be crazy.

After a Dallas player nearly broke in alone on Greiss, Mantha cleared the puck and hit Robby Fabbri right in the throat, sending him to the room. I don’t know what god we angered tonight, but it’s getting ridiculous.

Not surprising, but still terrible.

Robby Fabbri is back out there, so at least that’s positive news. Detroit is being outshot 29 to 12 at the 5 minute mark of the third. That’s gotta be the worst imbalance tonight. I mean—what’s that? Minnesota?

Djoos takes a penalty, and Dallas goes to it’s third power play. Detroit still has not had one, and Dallas has definitely committed some penalties. Oh well.

Detroit kills it off, and they now have a cushion because THAT FABRRI….IS BACK…ON THE SCORESHEET!

Larkin and Fabbri break in on a two-on-one, and Larkin loses the handle trying to deke Oettinger, but the puck ends up on Fabbri’s stick and he slams it into the empty net for the hat trick.

Now we know what Bernier and Fabbri were talking about the other night:

As I was typing it up, Roope Hintz scores to make it 3-1.

Dallas is throwing everything they have at Detroit, and so far, the Wings are holding. Now would be a good time for Detroit to get a power play. And it happens!!

As I was typing that, Mantha drove the net and was kept from getting a good scoring chance, illegally. Let’s see if they can pad the lead.

They don’t, but they get a lot of zone possession, and don’t give up a shorthanded goal, like I know a lot of us were thinking would happen.

Dallas pulls their goalie, Mantha makes a great stick-check on Pavelski to prevent a shot, then misses an open net. This comes back to haunt the Wings, as Jason Robertson throws a wrister at the traffic in front and the other Jason (Dickinson) tips it past Greiss to make it 3-2.

Oettinger comes back off with about a minute to go and the Stars get set up, but the Wings kill the clock and we all unclench.

Overall, it was a fun game, with one huge downer. It looks like Bernier could be out for a while, although we obviously hope that’s not the case.

But for tonight, we celebrate!
