Viktor Loov Suspended 2 Games For Hit On Zach Nastasiuk

Today, a piece of justice has been served as Viktor Loov has been suspended for this brutal hit to the head of Griffins forward Zach Nastasiuk.

From the AHLnews release

The American Hockey League today announced that Toronto Marlies defenseman Viktor Loov has been suspended for two (2) games as a consequence of a match penalty for an illegal check to the head of an opponent, assessed in Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal playoff series vs. Grand Rapids on Apr. 26.

Loov will Toronto’s next two playoff games, beginning with Game 3 of the series Wednesday (Apr. 29) at Grand Rapids. The Marlies currently lead the best-of-five series, two games to none.

The incident happened at 6:56 of the 3rd period in game 2 of the series on Sunday evening. Zach Nastasiuk was down on the ice for a couple minutes before being helped off by the Griffins trainer and Xavier Ouellet. Nasty was clearly in discomfort, though it was difficult to tell if it was “only” head related or if he suffered some other injury on the play as well. He left the game and did not return. Loov received a match penalty for a check to the head. As I’m writing this, there has been no news on Nastasiuk’s status.

The Marlies have a 2-0 series lead and game 3 will be in Grand Rapids tomorrow night as the Griffins fight off elimination.
