Video of the Day: Joe Louis Arena Rocks

There’s been a lot of talk today about Joe Louis Arena and what its fate will be should the Red Wings build a new arena. So it seemed only fitting that today’s video showcases what the Joe means to Wing fans. This is a video taken at the end of Game 6 of the 2008 Finals against the Penguins. I was in my living room going absolutely crazy celebrating yet another Stanley Cup, and can only imagine what it must have been like to experience that with thousands of other fans. I like this video because I lose myself in the euphoria of the crowd.

I’ve only been to the Joe for a Wing game twice in my life, but I know a lot of you have a ton of memories. So share with us; name your single favourite memory of the Joe, with bonus points being awarded to non-Stanley Cup winning experiences, because those just make the rest of us jealous. Bonus question: name a time when you desperately wanted to be at the Joe. For me, that would have been to celebrate Stevie’s solo victory lap with the Cup in 1997. I would have loved to have been there for the entire celebration, but that lap was about Yzerman and the fans, and shedding years of disappointment and failures together.
