What A Treat: Detroit Red Wings 5 – Los Angeles Kings 2

Happy Halloween everyone!

I was not able to catch basically anything of the first period, and only watched patches of the second period, but, I was able to watch the third period. The game, at least the portions that I watched, was very enjoyable yet turbulent.

But, despite having some bumps, the game ended with a sound outcome. The Wings won, and grabbed two points against the reigning Stanley Cup champions.

The first period was a great one for the Wings. Gustav Nyquist began the night’s scoring with a PP goal after nearly six minutes of play. Shortly thereafter, Pavel Datsyuk scored his third goal of the season before Nyquist added his second PP goal of the night. Tomas Tatar would round out the period with his second goal of the season, to give the Wings a 4-0 lead after one period of play.

The second period was a lot tighter than the first, and the Kings were able to capitalize on this via a Alec Martinez goal mid-way through the period.

Up until the third period, the game had been quite a treat. The Wings held a comfortable lead, and had dominated the Kings during the first period. The scary portion of this Halloween game began during the third period.

Tyler Toffoli scored a shorthanded goal after nearly two minutes of play in the period. Seconds later, Danny DeKeyser was called for tripping Dustin Brown, who was given a penalty shot for his efforts. Luckily, Brown did not score, as that would have given the Wings merely a one-goal cushion to work with.

The Wings managed to hold on throughout the rest of the period, with Pavel Datsyuk scoring an empty-netter to seal the deal for the Wings.

This is the Wings’ second-straight win after Wednesday’s win against the Washington Capitals.

East Lansing experienced its first snow of the season today, and maybe that’s a sign of things to come. Winter is a-brewin’, and its going to carry the Wings with it, all the way into late-Spring. And, if we are lucky, it might even carry the Wings into the wee days of summer.

Next up for the Wings are the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday at 5PM.

Let’s Go Red Wings!
