World Junior Hockey Championships 2015 results: Day Four
Four days gone now in the WJC. Here were the results from Monday's action
Denmark vs. Czech Republic
Featuring: Danes and Czechs
The Danes have been the "Almost" story of this tourney so far, having lost another heartbreaker to a heavily-favored squad. This time, it was 4-3 in favor of the Czech squad in overtime. Denmark had a 3-2 lead early in the third period, but gave up the game-tying goal with just 3:02 left on the clock. David Pastrnak went on to win it with a breakaway goal in overtime and Denmark remains winless.
Slovakia vs. United States
Featuring: Dylan Larkin (1 Goal 1 Assist, 2 SOG, +2, 41.67% faceoffs, named Player of the Game)
The US took a while to pound one home in their 3-0 win, but by the time Sonny Milano broke the tie with just 2:18 left in the second period, that was all the scoring they'd need. The US was clearly the better team, outshooting Slovakia 45-17, but it took a while for that advantage to really show. Slovakia did a good job keeping the US to the outside through the first two periods and had a few high quality scoring chances of their own. Larkin set up the Milano game-winner and then scored one of his own on a sharp angle in the third period to make it 2-0. John Hayden added the third and the USA got their third win of the tourney.
Russia vs. Sweden
Featuring: Axel Holmstrom (1G 1A, 2 SOG) and Cristoffer Ehn (0 points, 0 SOG)
Sweden wins a thriller against Russia 3-2 on Axel Holmstrom's third period game-winner. The Swedes scored first in the opening period, but Russia tied it in the 2nd. Russia took a 2-1 lead early in the third, but Gustav Forsling tied it on a power play three minutes later and Holmstrom got the game-winner with 9:07 left.
Canada vs. Finland
Featuring: Joe Hicketts (0 points, 0 SOG, -1)
Canada finally allowed their first goal of the tournament, but remained perfect in beating Finland 4-1 off two goals by Sam Reinhart. Hicketts was on for the only Finland goal, so that was neat.
