A Win! A dominating one at the Joe on Monday night led by the first Career hat-trick for Mike Green. Tonight, “Wednesday Night Rivalry!” It will be Detroit’s first look at Jimmy Vesey, who scored his first NHL goal Monday night against San Jose.
Each game against the Rangers the past two seasons has been decided by one goal. Between Jimmy Howard and Petr Mrazek, seven of the last eight games they started against the Rangers have been one goal games, except a 3-0 loss in March of 2014, in which Howard started at MSG. History tells us this, there will be little margin for error tonight for the Red Wings as these teams have played close games.
Both of the Rangers wins this season have been at The Garden. Henrik Lundqvist is 1-1 with a 3.03 goals against average and a save percentage of 87% this season. They put seven goals up on San Jose on Monday night at Chris Kreider is playing good hockey right now with six points in three games.
After a dominating performance Monday night, these follow up games are critical for the Red Wings to establish some consistency and structure that will carry out through the season. They need to show us is this Wings team more of what we saw in Florida or closer to what we saw at the Joe?
