First off Wings fans, I want to say enjoy the game. If it’s a win tonight, it will be the last time you’ll see this line-up playing together because of all the free agents. So enjoy the game, and if it’s a loss? We get to see them skate again on home ice. But I’m sure we’d all prefer a win right here, right now.
Keys to the game:
- Can the defense play as well as they did last game? If you’re Chris Osgood you sure hope so. The Pens are going to “come out firing”, “with their backs against the wall”, whatever sports cliche you want to substitute in.
- Will Pavel Datsyuk have an effect? Gotta like the chances of this one being a yes after his performance in Game 5.
- How will Marc-Andre Fleury respond? All the weight of the hockey world rests on his shoulders at this point, but he can only do so much. The Penguins defense that had been so good throughout the series let him down big time in Detroit.
- Will Marian Hossa finally get on the scoreboard? All signs are pointing to “yes”. But then again, they’ve been pointing to that for a long time now.
- Will history repeat itself? The Wings could capture their second straight Stanley Cup tonight and for the second straight time, on Pittsburgh’s home ice.
As I said, enjoy the game because *hopefully* it will be the last time we see our guys on the ice together until next year.
