Only Anaheim is as hot as Detroit in their last ten games. The Wings are riding a six-game winning streak and have gone 8-2-0 in that time. Tampa lost on Tuesday to Carolina, but is still 6-4-0 in their last ten contests. One point separates these teams in the standings right now and Detroit has a game in hand. This is an opportunity for the Wings to buy a little leeway on their game in hand or an opportunity for Tampa to make that extra game meaningless.
Tampa is without Matt Carle and Radko Gudas and they still probably have a deeper defense than the Wings right now. At forward, they have two all-stars on their top two lines and a rookie all-star on their third line. This is a good hockey team.
If the Wings play defense like they have been lately, they’re going to have a lot of trouble with Tampa. If they can find their shot suppression game again, I like their chances.
Will this be the first game that Weiss will play against Filppula since two summers ago? I think it will.
Have fun in the comments and let’s go Red Wings.
