Flyers blog: Broad Street Hockey

Tonight the Wings take on the Flyers in a game that could have had a lot more-interesting meaning had Petr Mrazek not won his last game and gotten to five with the Flyers before meeting his old team. In case you’ve been living under a rock, the conditions on the deal that sent Mrazek to Philadelphia turns their guaranteed 4th rounder this year into a third rounder if he wins five games (done) and if the Flyers make the playoffs (fingers crossed, I guess).

It’s still possible for it to become a 2nd rounder, but Detroit needs Mrazek to win at least six playoff games and for the Flyers to make it as far as the Eastern Conference Final for that. There’s nothing we can do about rooting for that right now, but we still do have the thing where we have to hope the Flyers can hold onto what is currently a six-point cushion over the 9th-place Florida Panthers who also happen to have three games in hand.

Of course, Philly would also have to fall out of their current spot as the 3-seed in the Metropolitan Division, but I’ll unclench when they do clinch.

Oh hey, the Detroit Red Wings are also playing in this game. I’m in a weird spot with a ten-game losing streak just kind of making me tired of all the grumpiness and the faux-confusion about the grumpiness from pockets of #teamtank who pretend like they can’t understand people simply disagreeing with them. Honestly I’ve kind of enjoyed the Wings’ process over the last little stretch while also enjoying how they’ve gotten kind of shit luck on their way to double-digits in the consecutive loss column.

If you’re going to the game, get there early and get me a Frans Nielsen bobblehead.
