The Big Story

P.K. Subban scores in Predators’ debut, celebrates like a boss- Greg Wyshynski: Yahoo! Sports

Around 3 pm on June 29, Taylor Hall was traded to the New Jersey Devils for Adam Larsson. Then the biggest trade of the off-season happened.

P.K. Subban was traded to Nashville for Shea Weber and I have to reiterate it because I still have a hard time believing it really happened. But it definitely happened, as Subban exclaimed last night, rocketing a power play goal in the first period of his Nashville debut. Of course he ripped off one of his trademark cellys; you know, that kind of terrible enthusiasm the Canadiens couldn’t dare have around their team.

To Weber’s credit, he had an assist Thursday night in his new role as team Man Mountain for Montreal.

In Red Wings Land

As Red Wings tinker, Anthanasiou back in the mix- Ted Kulfan: The Detroit News

One of the biggest complaints in the off-season for restlessly cynical Red Wings fans was Andreas Athanasiou being the odd man out following the signing of human junk drawer Steve Ott.

Well, Ott didn’t play too well in any aspect Thursday night. He took a dumb penalty in the first period, struggled to clear or maintain the zone, and the one time he dropped the gloves he was immediately dropped by Braydon Coburn.

Enter Athanasiou, who will not only take Ott’s spot, but is practicing on the first line with Nielson and Zetterberg. If the lines in practice hold, we’ll finally see AA get the opportunity he earned following the electrifying run he had last season.

It’s also worth noting Abdelkader is now practicing with the fourth line, which is an appropriate fit.

It’s good to see Blashill make aggressive adjustments.
