Quick Hits: Bill Daly Talks Hot Topics; Nyquist and Vanek Updates

Around The NHL

Las Vegas, Fighting, And The Future of The NHL: Takeaways From Bill Daly’s Remarks | Cody Benjamin, cbssports.com

The interview itself is a few days old, but Benjamin’s piece (and the one it’s based on from Philly.com, linked in the article) have some cool insights – particularly about the Vegas decision.  One of the key points:  Vegas had a leg up on Quebec City right from the start.

NHL Notes: Canadiens Fire Michel Therrien, Hire Claude Julien As Head Coach | The Associated Press, CSNPhilly.com

As you no doubt saw last night, the Habs pulled one out of left field and fired their head coach.  The front office was probably upset that he hadn’t won 3 Stanley Cups already this season, failing to realize the Challenge Cup days ended about 100 years ago.  But anyway, snuck in at the bottom of the piece is an important tidbit about our next opponent – Paul Stastny has been placed on IR, meaning we won’t see him on the ice later tonight.

In Red Wings Land

Notes: Red Wings Prepare To Be Without Gustav Nyquist | Arthur J. Regne, NHL.com

With his hearing taking place today, the team has been taking precautions to be without Nyquist for at least tonight.  It looks like Tatar will fill in on the top line if Nyquist is suspended.  The piece also touches on Tatar and his thoughts on his performance this season, and Vanek’s return and possible status as trade bait.
