Not a lot of news out of Red Wings world today, most of the hockey world has been fixated on the Jake Guentzel trade.
The NHL trade deadline is at 3:00 PM ET today. Most of the big names are off the board, but here are some reminders from the lovely folks at CapFriendly:
Red Wings Rumblings
Will the losing streak affect deadline approach?
Quick answer: No, probably not.
Ansar Khan mentions a few names here — Radko Gudas, Jakob Chychrun, and Matt Dumba. Personally think they can do without Gudas and Dumba. If the goal is to improve the blue line, Chychrun is your best option, but that won’t be an easy deal to strike with Ottawa. I offered some more thoughts in yesterday’s piece about potential targets.
No other Red Wings news to pass along this morning. The team hasn’t tweeted since they got beat up by Colorado.
NHL News
“Jake Guentzel was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday for forward Michael Bunting, forward prospects Vasily Ponomarev and Ville Koivunen, the rights to forward Cruz Lucius, a conditional first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft.“
Good pickup for Carolina. Seems like there have been a ton of intra-division deals this year.
Duclair to Tampa
Tough news for the Wings in a way. They’re neck-and-neck with Tampa in the Wild Card picture.
