Weekend Quick Links: Whose Measuring Stick is Bigger?

Hockeytown: No Limits

Good game last night, eh? The Wings did a lot of things right against a surprisingly good Oilers team. Do you like recaps? Then we’ve got recaps. [The Production Line, Detroithockey.net, Copper and Blue]

One of the best Red Wing forwards so far this season has been Valtteri Filppula. However, he’s had the “not living up to his potential” tag for the last few years, but all it took was for Uncle Mike to get a simple message across to Flip about how to be successful: go to the inside. Did Flip finally start listening or did Babcock have to go all Inception with his message? [Freep]

The Hockey Hall of Fame is close to inducting their new members, and among this year’s class is a player with a lot of Red Wing ties, Mark Howe. His biggest regret? Not wearing #9 one time with dad’s permission. [Red Wings]

For those not on the Twitters, Sara Schropp (aka @thetinnishflash) attended the Toast of Hockeytown, and wrote about her experiences interacting with the players and other fans. [Sara Schropp]

Chris over at Crashing the Net recaps last night’s game, but his last paragraph our Filppula is what caught my eye: “He is so unselfish that it is holding him back.” Thoughts? [Crashing the Net]

Around the NHL

Aaron Rome of the Vancouver Canucks might be hearing from Mr Shanahan after this hit on Devante Smith-Pelly. Personally, I think the five-and-a-game was enough, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen a Shanaban, and I bet Shanny is getting itchy with his “suspension finger”. [Puck Daddy]

I’m pretty sure that Sleek’s opinion might be different after last night’s win against the Canucks, but he’s not very enamored with Randy Carlyle or Ryan Getzlaf. I’ve never been more proud of him. [Battle of Cali]

A sincere congratulations to the Nashville Predators, who will play the 1000th game in franchise history tonight against the Montreal Canadiens. This also marks Barry Trotz’ 1000th game as their coach. A stat that’s even more insane? Scotty Bowman had over 1000 wins as an NHL coach. [On the Forecheck]

In case you missed it last week, Silver Seven had a great series on players in Senators history who were called off to war or served their country. It was a fantastic series, even if Canadian-centric. [Silver Seven]
