The Red Wings finish off a 7 game road trip with a visit to St Louis to take on the Blues. While we’ve been speculating all day about whether Evgeni Nabokov is going to become a Red Wing, we lost sight of the fact that the Wings will be taking on a division rival tonight. The Wings have got to come out with a strong effort in the first period and try not to fall behind 2-0 for the fourth straight game, because the Blues are too strong defensively (particularly with Halak in net) to come back on easily. Jimmy Howard returns to the Wings’ net tonight, and if you’ll recall, the last time these two teams met, Chris Osgood was still stuck on 399 wins and did nothing to help get him further to 400. The Wings also played what I considered to be their worst first period of the season in that game, which has now become a familiar refrain. If the Wings keep starting games the way they have been, I’m going to not even bother watching the first periods anymore when I could be catching Simpsons’ episodes.
No lineup changes for the Wings besides the return of Jimmy. As always, keep it flowing, keep it classy, and here’s to watching a third of the AHL rosters for both teams in action; let’s just hope that no one gets hurt.
