GIF Recap: Red Wings vs Stars

Well, it wasn’t the prettiest of games, but a win is a win. Pretty rough game for both Jimmy Howard and Kari Lehtonen, with lots of dirty goals. Either way, there was some pretty bad ass plays that made me jump out of my seat, so you should look at them! I made them for you all!

Jonathan Ericsson punched Jamie Benn’s face a couple of times, and it was awesome. Considering the fact that not too long after, Benn acted like a stupid asshole and gave Henrik Zetterberg a cheap-shot right to the head.

Gustav Nyquist is good. He puts up a crafty shot on Lehtonen’s blocker side, and it finds it’s way in. Fantastic pass by Riley Sheahan, and hey! Alexey Marchenko’s first career NHL point! Youth movement, god dammit.

Pavel Datsyuk is a gift to us all. Why? Because he does incredible hockey things. He sniped something filthy on Lehtonen, unassisted, and boy did it give me some feelings all over.

Remember when we were all upset that Jakub Kindl was back in the lineup and then he scored two key goals back-to-back? What the hell is going on

Seriously, though.. This might be one of the best plays of the night. The outlet from Kindl, and Tatar’s decision to not shoot while he has a clear break and no-look pass it back to Kindl for the equalizer.. Wooooo baby!

The Wings found themselves down 6-4 in the third, but it was a screen from Justin Abdelkader that brought them back into the game. Also, I could watch Niklas Kronwall’s wind up for this shot over and over and over. So sexy.

Down 6-5? Empty net? No problem, we got this. Pavel Datsyuk nets his second of the night on a very greasy goal. Again, Abby gets up on the net-front, rolls up his sleeves, and gets his hands dirty which generates the rebound for Pavel to do the deed. I’m surprised Abdelkader didn’t get called for goalie interference here.. But hey, whatever.

The game-winner. Niklas Kronwall. His choice to drag the puck around Jamie Benn and backhand it past Lehtonen was perfect. This is a work of art, folks. A true WHOAvertime moment. What a smoking hot play.

So yeah, not the prettiest game, but Detroit did a lot of good things outside of having some bad defense and bad goaltending. Pavel Datsyuk had himself a huge four point game, which gives him 47 points on the season. Detroit has 33 wins now, and sits four points back from Tampa, and five points back from Montreal with a handful of games in-hand. We got this, yeah? Yeah.
