Welcome back to hockey. The good news is that at least this break wasn’t as long as the previous one, right?
The Wings haven’t played since Saturday while the Canucks played an ugly slugfest against the Flyers last night. No doubt Vancouver is going to want to play better than the five goals they allowed in Philadelphia. If last year was an indication, I would expect this to be a very ugly first period while the game-ready Canucks come out flying against a Wings team that’s shaking off even early-season rust. If Detroit can survive that, they can wear down Vancouver.
Word is that Holmstrom finds himself back in the lineup while Eaves and Brunnstrom are the scratches. Brendan Smith will be serving game #2 of his five-game ban while using up Mike Commodore’s injured roster spot.
Let’s go Red Wings!
