Pavel Datsyuk Named Captain of Russia’s Olympic Team

Well this is interesting.

I wasn’t expecting that an NHL player would get the call and, if it were to be an NHLer, I wasn’t expecting Datsyuk, but the well-deserving 35-year old former Kharlamov Trophy Award recipient for the most-valuable Russian NHL player will be the on-ice leader for a team under immense pressure to win gold on home ice.

Datsyuk joins Henrik Zetterberg among Red Wings players to be named captain of their national ice hockey teams. Zetterberg was named Team Sweden’s captain last week.

Congratulations to Pavel Datsyuk on the honor.
