Quick Hits: The Ken Holland & Edmonton Edition
In Red Wings Land
The Edmonton Oilers’ next GM will be Ken Holland, if he wants the job | Sportsnet
The Edmonton Oilers are all-in on Ken Holland. But is the Detroit Red Wings icon ready to commit to Edmonton?
The Oilers hunt for a general manager, being conducted by CEO Bob Nicholson, is ready to wrap up. The Oilers and Holland have conducted extensive negotiations, with sources telling Sportsnet that the important issue of complete autonomy to hire and fire at will has been granted by Edmonton.
According the article, if Holland takes the Oilers GM gig, then he might bring Red Wings director of amateur scouting Tyler Wright with him to Edmonton. That would be an interesting domino to fall. Does that mean Steve Yzerman makes a call or two and brings someone up from the Lightning to join him Detroit? Maybe Al Murray?
I fully expect Holland to leave Detroit at some point in the future. Maybe not this offseason, but eventually he’s going to want to be a GM again. I think Seattle would be the coolest option for him, but it might be tough to turn down the chance of building a team around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

I remember back in the day when Scotty Bowman would play Sergei Fedorov on defense. I like to believe that if Fedorov played on the blue line full time, he could’ve, at the very least, been a finalist for the Norris trophy.
