Quick Hits: The Accolades Edition

Red Wings Rumblings

Happy Tigers Opening Day everyone! If you’re headed downtown for the marathon, make sure you mix in a water!

The Wings return to action tonight with the Wild Card race looking a little different than it did last time they played. The New York Islanders hold the second spot now — one point ahead of the Capitals and Red Wings (who both have a game in hand on the Islanders).

Wild Card Standings

Meanwhile… DOGS AT PRACTICE!!

This was part of a fundraiser to support the Detroit Red Wings Foundation and Michigan Humane. Here’s some background.

Sandin-Pellikka earning accolades

ASP is one of Detroit’s most-coveted prospects. A former first-round pick, Sandin-Pellikka was awarded the Salming Trophy, an award to the best Swedish-born defender in the SHL or SDHL.

NHL News

A new way to watch the game

Warner Bros. Discovery, TNT Sports and the NHL are banding together to bring a live animated simulcast of a pro hockey game. It’ll include big names like Batman, Superman, characters from Scooby Doo and Bugs Bunny. That game (Colorado vs. Vegas) will stream on Max April 14.

IN THE FACE

CBJ’s Kirill Marchenko (one of my favorite non-Red Wings players to watch this season) pulled off the impossible-angle goal last night by shooting the puck at Ilya Sorokin’s face and deflecting it into the net. Nasty, nasty, nasty. I said it on Twitter, but this is the type of disrespectful stuff we need more of in the NHL.
