Quick Hits: The Forced Narrative Edition

TSN Hockey’s Top 10 Storylines of the Week | by Scott Cullen, TSN

One story that jumped out at me was:

Sidney Crosby is the only player in the NHL with more goals this season than 20-year-old Bruins winger David Pastrnak, who has 19 goals in 27 games.

Pastrnak is approaching rare territory as there are very few forwards so young that have been able to score 35 goals in a NHL season. He’s not there yet, but Pastrnak has paid huge dividends to the Bruins only a couple of years after he was selected with the 25th pick in the draft.

It doesn’t take a lottery pick to get a top player.

Steve Ott’s first-period fight sparked Detroit Red Wings | by George Sippel, Detroit Free Press

Yeah, ok. Let’s say this was true, and I am not saying that.

Why didn’t Ott fight against the Coyotes? Why doesn’t he fight every game? If this is really the reason why the team had jump, why did he not provide the jump the other games? I’m not saying that physical play can’t spark a team. Of course it can. But this narrative keeps getting pushed in our faces by nearly every beat writer and FSD contributor.

Maybe it’s because if Ott doesn’t contribute something, there’s no reason for him to be on the roster.
