NHL considering more unique destinations after Global Series — Melbourne

As the NHL continues its final preparations to bring teams to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in September, it is already considering other unique international cities that could host preseason games in future seasons, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said.

I’m torn on the idea of “neutral site games” as a feature of the regular season. I like them as part of the pre-season – it seems like a better time to keep the players relaxed, expose more of the roster to “new” fans, set aside some time for player/fan interactions, etc. I like it a lot less that the Wings are going to take a 10-day deviation from the norm when points matter.

Professional Women’s Hockey League to launch with 6 teams in January 2024

The new Professional Women’s Hockey League will launch in January with teams in six North American cities.

The Free Agency period opens today, and it’s a shame that there isn’t a Detroit team to cover. Fingers crossed this goes well and we’re one of the first cities to get a team when they’re ready to expand.
