Quick Hits: The Not Really News Edition

Red Wings… uh… Repeat Stuff

I know we’ve gone over this before, so it’s not really NEWS news… but the Traverse City Prospect Tournament starts tomorrow. Hooray for kind of real hockey! The Young Wings play Thursday at 6:30pm, Saturday at 3:30pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm. All games will stream thru the Red Wings website, Facebook page, and YouTube page, as well as thru pages from the other participating teams (Toronto, Dallas, and Columbus).

Here at WIIM, this will herald the return of Game Day Open Threads (yay!), which will look a little different from 1.0 but will still be a good time. Please participate, be your usual fun and respectful selves, and feel free to come back at us with notes on how to improve GDOTs before the regular season!

Around The League

There are two stories in the attached link – both of which are worth noting even if they are big nothing-burgers. The first is in regard to yesterday’s revelation about Mike Babcock and player pictures in Columbus. I don’t particularly wish Babcock well or feel like he’s owed any benefit of the doubt after what’s come out about his previous NHL tenure, but I also don’t think he deserves to have his actions and intentions purposely misconstrued for clicks and attention. Wherever the truth is, the NHLPA will get closer to it than any of us fans will (including the S.C. guys) and hopefully that puts it to bed one way or the other.

The other bit is in reference to Carey Price, whose knee continues to impede his path back to playing. At 36, and with 3 seasons left on his contract, it sounds like he knows he may never play again and is trying to take the pressure of that decision off himself while he continues his rehab.

I think this is something the hockey world at-large has known, or at least assumed, for a while – but that doesn’t mean Price himself has fully realized it before now. I’ve never been a fan of the Habs or Price in general, but there’s no denying he was an absolute beast between the pipes. If they could have put a better team in front of him, there could have been a lot of Cups that went north of the border. Best of luck on the rehab, and on life off the ice, Mr. Price.
