Quick Hits: The Strange Moves Edition

Red Wings News

I want to lead off with a few things on this:

First, I have no clue who runs Indy500Blog.com or if they’re reputable. Ditto Zachary Claman DeMelo. But this isn’t exactly the thing a player/driver posts and then you re-post unless you’re pretty sure about it.

Second, we have yet to hear from Sprong or anyone else about this. There’s 3 parts to every story – one side, the other side, and the truth. Not to excuse the alleged actions, but we have no clue if there was provocation or instigation, substances in play, or any number of other factors. SOMETHING else was in play though – coming back for Round 2 isn’t something you do because you thought a random act of violence would be funny while inebriated.

All that said, IF this is true then it’s gotta bump Sprong down a peg or two on the depth chart (and I’m not sure he had much room beneath him anyway). We know Stevie Y values character in the locker room, and this seems like a fairly significant lapse of that on Sprong’s part.

Obviously, we’ll be tracking this pretty closely as more info comes available.

Around The League

Excuse me but, what?

IF true (and the article does say that nobody reputable is reporting this yet, so HUGE grain of salt to be taken with this), this is absolutely a “put butts in seats” type of move. At 51, he may be the oldest player to suit up for an NHL game since Gordie Howe but I’d bet that he wouldn’t look out of place. After all, he still technically hasn’t retired as he’s been playing professionally for Kladno in the Czech League since 2017 (and with point totals that look like he still belongs on the ice). We’ll see what happens.

I honestly can’t believe Tatar is unsigned. It feels like Dubas is trying to put together the hockey version of RED, but it’s undeniable that Tatar would bring talent and experience to an already talented and experienced roster. I still won’t cheer for them though, even if they sign Tatar.
