In a regular year, we’d be looking at players’ points totals and would have a really good idea where we stood with them as far as deadline moves and/or potential re-signings. In a shortened season where we’re in April and the team has only played 36 games, we have to guess a little. With that said, I want to post the relative paces of the Wings who have recorded points.
Instead of taking current points-per-game and multiplying by 82, I wanted to let games missed stand and adjust accordingly. The difference isn’t severe, but it does at least somewhat take into account players missing time. All of these paces take the Red Wings through 36 games and assume that they all play another 46 at their current paces.

Obviously, there are some immediate problems with basing conclusions strongly on this (mostly that they also don’t take things like time played or quality of competition into account, and that the Wings can’t play all of these players in every game from here on out). Also, this list leaves out Carlo Colaiacovo, Jan Mursak, and Darren Helm as the guys who haven’t scored a single point and can’t be calculated into things.
We can draw few useful things though. For one, the center/winger who is apparently asking for $5M a year in free agency is pacing for 34 points over a full season. For another, a few of the players viewed as being “in the way” of developing prospects aren’t pacing to light it up at a rate much higher than those prospects and are doing so because they’re also pacing to get in significantly more games.
