Red Wings re-sign Alexey Marchenko

The Red Wings have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Alexey Marchenko

Details have yet to be released, but we will keep you posted.

Marchenko had an impressive season with the Red Wings in 2014-2015, emerging as a solid and dependable two-way defender. The former 7th-round pick posted 11 points in 66 games. While his offensive game isn’t staggering, he consistently makes smart plays in his own zone, and has worked his way into the big picture for this Red Wings team.

I’m a big fan of Alexey Marchenko. He’s extremely calm, and steady with the puck. Very rarely do you see him making an “oopsie-daisy” in the defensive zone. His vision is great, and he can skate well for a guy with his size. Marchenko was one of the RFAs that Detroit needed to lock up, so, one down.

UPDATE:

Ansar Khan of MLive tweeted out the terms on Marchenko’s deal:

The Red Wings opted to give him a bridge deal. Marchenko gets a nice pay-raise, and the Red Wings hold onto a solid blue-liner for the next couple of years.
