The Winter Classic is over, and our man David will have a full recap up later, as will JJ with CSSI at some point.
Here’s an opportunity to discuss what we just witnessed. Things that stood out to me:
The overall look and feel of the game was incredible. I can’t wait to hear the stories from people who were actually there.
The Wings looked really good over the course of the game. They outshot the Leafs 43-26 through OT and overall controlled play. This game could be the start of a nice little run.
Tomas Tatar was the best Wing in my eyes today. Every time he touched the puck, he was creating offense and making things happen.
Jonathan Bernier was easily the star of the game. Without him, this game never gets to OT.
Jimmy Howard bounced back very well after Monday’s performance. Unfortunately, it was the same old same old in the shootout. Still, after the way he played Monday, I was pleased to see him play so strong today.
The Red Wings need to practice shootouts.
It wasn’t the greatest quality of play, but that was a very fun game to watch. If there’s one thing the NHL does right, it’s the Winter Classic.
