Another day, another extremely important game for the Red Wings in their fight to climb back into the playoff race. Fortunately for them the Atlantic Division outside of Montreal is more of a war of attrition than a race for the playoffs right now. Even with all the injuries, blown third period leads and inconsistent play a win tonight would pull the Wings to within two points of Boston.
Boston welcomes the Wings tonight with problems of their own. Their coach is on the hottest of hot seats (at least with the Boston media), their defense is suddenly very porous and Tuukka Rask is starting to show signs of overuse. There could a playoff like atmosphere to this one as both sides need these two points desperately.
That win was made more difficult yesterday for the Red Wings with the news that both Tomas Vanek and Dylan Larkin will be out for tonight’s game (Larkin will also miss Thursday game against Toronto. The Wings are still hopeful Vanek can go Thursday). As a result, Tomas Jurco will get possibly his last best chance at showing the Red Wings why he belongs on this team. The other spot is still a little murky. The most likely course is that Drew Miller, fresh off of clearing waivers, will take the other spot in the lineup but the Red Wings have not confirmed that yet.
