Red Wings fans, I wonder if we are in the minority. Once the calendar rolled to Monday and the talking heads were chiming in from their official platforms, there was a lot of talk about what happened to Larkin over the weekend. And I kept hearing it talked about as “a play that went horribly wrong”. I vehemently disagree.
To be clear, I’m not going to talk (much) about Perron and his cross check on Zub. It was a penalty. It was egregious. And it’s deserving of a suspension. None of that is being debated.
But the idea that what Joseph did to Larkin should be written off as a “hockey play” is a tragic dereliction of duty by members of the media who absolutely have the power to shape opinion of the incident and the future of the sport. Case in point: Elliotte Friedman, Jeff Marek, and Sportsnet.
