GIF Recap: Red Wings Triumph Over Sharks

Raise your hand if you’re happy that late games are done and over with!

What a thriller this was, Detroit started the game off absolutely dreadfully. I was almost certain that they were going to get pounded for the remaining 40 minutes of regulation, but the tides turned as soon as the 2nd period began. Detroit throttled San Jose in possession, and it showed as they made a comeback to win the game 3-2. In the last 40 minutes of regulation, Detroit had 64 shot attempts, while San Jose had just 24. That’s good hockey. Let’s look at the goals we scored!

1st Period (3:53) – Detroit’s first goal came from Teemu Pulkkinen. The entire play was made by Stephen Weiss, who hesitated to move the puck, but drove into the net and Riley Sheahan was right there to sweep the rebound right over to Pulkky, who will bury that puck 10 out of 10 times.

3rd Period (13:32) – What would a Detroit Red Wings hockey game be without a jaw-dropping Pavel Datsyuk moment? I don’t know what is more awesome, the goal itself, or Pavel’s smile when they are celebrating the goal. God, I love that guy.

3rd Period (18:42) – It looked like the game was all but set for overtime, which I think by that time even though we were all tired and didn’t want to stay up later, we were thankful for the point. Too bad Luke Glendening had all of our backs last night. Number 41 pots the game-winner with just a minute left in regulation on a feed from Gustav Nyquist. What a beauty of a goal this was. Backhand spin-o-rama. FROM LUKE GLENDENING OF ALL PEOPLE!

This was a massive two points for Detroit. After dropping two in a row in southern California, they roll into Northern California and beat the Sharks in a dominant final 40 minutes of hockey. While they still sit 3rd place in the Atlantic, they have the opportunity to catch up to Tampa Bay with the amount of games they have in hand. It was a great win, but… Let’s just keep looking at Pavel Datsyuk’s smile:
