Red Wings Rumblings

Four questions at the start of the offseason

Fresh piece from The Hockey News about the Wings offseason. One of the questions asked is “How does Detroit incorporate youth without getting worse defensively,” and honestly, I’m not sure how you could get worse defensively by adding some more youth to this roster. Not much cap when it’s all said and done?

Some more offseason speculation — this time from longtime hockey writer Kevin Allen. Allen believes there won’t be much cap space to go around once Steve Yzerman checks off his major tasks over the next few months. We can expect paydays for Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider, and potentially some “fat trimming” with the cap — like moving on from Justin Holl, and some pending free agents.

Griffins ready for postseason, are you?

The Griffins will face the Rockford Icehogs in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. It starts Saturday, April 27th in Rockford at 8pm. There’s a watch party planned in downtown Grand Rapids:

Game 2: Icehogs AT Griffins, Wednesday, May 1 7PM ET
Game 3: Icehogs AT Griffins, Friday, May 3 7PM ET
Game 4 (if needed): Griffins AT Icehogs, Sunday, May 5 5PM ET
Game 5 (if needed): Icehogs AT Griffins, Friday, May 10 7PM ET

How about this save from Sergei Bobrovsky?

Straight out of the Hasek Handbook. Maybe one of the best saves I’ve seen in years.

Tyson Jost’s next move

Pending UFA Tyson Jost hasn’t been great, but if Buffalo moves on from him, it will be interesting to see what the market is like for him, if any. I do wonder if the Wings would have any interest in him as a cheap depth/rotation player.
