Griffins win last game of the regular season
It would take overtime to decide the final game of the season for the Grand Rapids Griffins, securing second place in the AHL’s Central Divsion. Carter Mazur picked up the game-winning goal, while Sebastian Cossa capped off a brilliant season with another tally for the win column.
Game one of the best-of-five division semifinals will take place at the BMO Center on Saturday, April 27 before the series shifts to Van Andel Arena for Games two and three on Wednesday, May 1 and Friday, May 3.
HSJ has a recap of Steve Yzerman’s post-season press conference. Here’s a snippet from that:
“Expectations are raised I think for some individuals,” Yzerman said. “For our team, we had 91 points, 41 wins. That’s tough to do and we still (missed) the playoffs. We’re probably going to have to get more than 91 points next year to get in, and that will be a challenge for us. But the overall growth of our young players, I see that as progressing, and I hope that translates into more wins for next year and actually getting into the playoffs.”

Caps pelted by Rangers in game one
It was all playoff action for the NHL over the weekend. One game that stood out, of course, was Capitals vs. Rangers. The Capitals, who narrowly made it past Detroit into the Wild Card, got their butts whooped in New York. Have to think that the Wings would have put up more of a fight than this. Phooey.
