GIF Recap: Red Wings Beat Rangers In Overtime

Sometimes you just find ways to win. Detroit is coming off a six game road trip where they went 4-1-1, which is great, but it was obvious that the New York Rangers were the quicker team last night, but Detroit somehow found themselves with the W. There weren’t many goals scored, but there were plenty of great moments throughout the night. Enjoy!

The Red Wings got on the board first with this goal from Justin Abdelkader. Great effort to go straight to the net by Abby, but I seriously want to sing this no-look pass by Henrik Zetterberg a very sweet and soft R&B song by candlelight.

Tomas Jurco saw time on the top-line last night, and he was probably the most dominant winger on the most dominant line for Detroit. He didn’t get on the scoresheet, but he had a handful of chances.. Goals are coming, gang.

This game simply could not be settled in regulation thanks to fantastic goaltending on both sides. The Red Wings slipped away from another shootout thanks to a greasy chip-in by the new guy, Marek Zidlicky. Pretty good that he has a right-shot, yeah? Because that’s pretty much the only way this puck gets in.

Detroit played a pretty shameful game all-around. Plain and simple, Jimmy Howard won this game for Detroit. He posted a .975 Save Percentage, and allowing only one goal. Here’s a look at just some of the saves he made last night:

It wasn’t a pretty win, even Mike Babcock said it in his postgame presser. He said “I hope the new guys don’t think that we play this way every night.” The story of the night was Jimmy Howard.. Sometimes your goalie has to steal you a win, and that is precisely what he did last night. Detroit now sits one point behind the Tampa Bay Lightning with three games in hand. Looks like we might end up playing Tampa in the first round, so home ice is going to be a huge deal here. Rough way to win, but winning is winning. Let’s win another on Friday!
