Mile High Hockey’s Gameday Coverage & 3 Questions

Last time we met the Avs, I dropped the ball and didn’t get three questions out to our rival blogs. This time, I didn’t drop the ball. David Driscoll-Carignan from Mile High Hockey is here today to answer our three questions so we can get to know our enemies and so I’ve got a good excuse to link over to their content today.

Check out Mile High Hockey’s gameday coverage here.

1. The Avs made one move at the deadline, sending O’Byrne to Toronto for a 4th rounder. What kind of grades are the fans giving the team? What would you have liked to have seen them do?

Yeah, a minor move like that was probably the way to go (O’Byrne is a good player but was having a disaster or a season here). Obviously, the season has not gone well but I’m not sure wholesale deadline changes are the way to go. Better to wait for the offseason to re-tool, especially if there are going to be coaching or front office changes.

But I do wish they’d found a taker for Greg Zanon.

2. With how bad Calgary has been, people have been saying that not matching the O’Reilly offer sheet could have meant two of the top three picks in the draft. Would you want the club to have done it differently if that’s the case?

There’s a part of me that would have liked to see the Avs not match, just to see the ensuing battle about whether or not the incredibly vague CBA actually would have required O’Reilly to go on waivers. Seriously, the NHL is run by a lawyer and that’s the best they could do? And it certainly would have been been great to see the Avalanche with 2 lottery picks; I haven’t been following the draft closely, though, so I don’t know which twins are going to be the hot draft item this year.

In all seriousness, it would have been a tough PR move for team that’s struggling to fill seats to allow O’Reilly to walk, but in hindsight that might have been the way to go. His cap hit (thanks, Jay Feaster) is going to be troublesome and that high pick would have been attractive.

3. Which would you rather have, a flashlight that can be adjusted to let you see through things you shine it on or a gun that fires angry spiders?

I want a button I can press in my steering wheel that sends a message to the car in front of me to tell them in a polite, precise manner what they are doing wrong and what they can do to fix it. Pressing it a second time will gently remind them to GET THE FUCK OFF OF THE ROAD. That, or self-tying shoes.
