Gibson inks ELC

Here’s a prospect to keep an eye on. Gibson was a second-round pick in 2023 and is coming off a career year in the OHL with 44 points in 68 games. He’s big — six-foot-three, 203 pounds with a right-hand shot. Gibson plays the game like a hammer but has shown he can move the puck. Here’s a snippet from his Elite Prospects player card:

“The defensive zone is where Gibson remains the most at ease, however. As Elite Prospects Dir. of North American scouting Mitch Brown wrote in a December game report, “He engages at the right moments, keeps attacks wide, and doesn’t over-extend”.
Improving his footwork would make it easier for him to follow and shut down the shiftier forwards of the OHL, but his range does compensate for his lack of quickness.
If Gibson’s skating does develop and if he can increase the success rate of his transition plays, he could become a solid bottompairing, shutdown defenceman for an NHL team.”

Capitals eliminated from Playoffs

The Rangers easily took down the Capitals, who played like a bunch of chumps in this series. Stings just a little given the way the regular season closed out. Detroit would have easily put up more of a fight than these guys, right?

Ullmark an offseason trade candidate?

The Hockey News thinks the 30-year-old goaltender could be on the move this offseason after another strong season with the Bruins. If the Wings are going to get serious about upgrading their situation in net, this is probably one of their best options on the market.
