Bruins Blog: Stanley Cup of Chowder

So first off, I’d like to apologize for the Red Wings’ lack of a win so far this season. I haven’t been able to watch a single game yet, so clearly it must be me and the lack of my #hockeycat tweets that’s responsible.

Unfortunately, I can’t watch tonight either because of work. Or today, rather, because dumb baseball (says the sad Tigers fan) had to take precedence and get the hockey game rescheduled. I call shenanigans! #ItIsOctoberYet for goodness’ sake, it’s officially hockey season and I don’t care about the Red Sox.

Anyway, it’s now a matinee matchup (uh oh) against the Bruins (double uh oh) in Boston (triple uh oh, chocolate-dipped with sprinkles). Like, we all know this ain’t good. The Red Wings are still looking for their first win after starting the season 0-2-2, while the Bruins got spanked on opening night only to go on their current three-game winning streak. It’s just yikesies all around.

The good news is that Detroit seems to have gotten to a place that a dumb win is inevitable. An away matinee against a division rival seems a perfect game to make it happen.

The Bruins are off to a hot start this season, scoring at least four goals in their last three games after getting shut out in Washington in the season opener. The Red Wings finally scored more than two goals in the loss to Toronto on Thursday, so we’re on the uptrend! We also let in more goals against the Leafs than in all the other games so far, but I’m hand-waving away that fact!

More line shuffle-Wings expected for tonight as Nyquist is back on the top line with Larkin and Mantha, and Justin Abdelkader gets bumped down to make an expensive third line with Frans Nielsen and Michael Rasmussen. Do I care about how much money I pay a first line versus a third? No, because that’s a silly way to evaluate utility when your best players are the ones still on their entry-level or bridge deals.

Let’s Go Red Wings!!
