Blues blog: St. Louis Game Time

I hear the tank a-comin’, it’s rollin’ round the bend, and I ain’t seen the playoffs since I don’t know when. We’re stuck in Holland’s prison, the season’s draggin’ on, but that tank keeps a-rollin’ on through to St. Lou(is).

Tonight is game one of our life after Tatar, and he definitely took a big bag of fun with him as he was one of our more light-hearted guys. He always had a trick up his sleeve whether on the ice or in the locker room.  However, the Age of The Kids is upon us and this will give Tyler Bertuzzi his best opportunity to shine and show what he can do for us in the years ahead.

The Blues have been awful lately, just a complete collapse, with a 6 game losing streak leading up to the trade deadline. Their trade of Paul Stastny was their only move seeming to indicate either 1. they are confident they will break this slump and make the playoffs with no extra help or 2. they are committing to the tank. It’s now or never for them if they’re going to turn things around, they’re close enough to sneak into the playoffs but – like us – it may be best if they don’t. We know better than anyone the damage the playoff push that ends in an early exit can do.

The Wings have had perhaps too much good fortune for some fans lately. A small gain in the standings has lead to the whispers of a playoff push to elevate to outright murmuring. A win tonight, and some key losses for the bad guys, could bring us all the way up to indoor-voice levels of chatter.

Let’s see what NBCSN makes of all this. Anyone want to go in on a timeshare in NHL standings purgatory?

Let’s Go Red Wings!
