Flames Blog: Matchsticks & Gasoline

On Monday, the Wings defeated the Canucks.  On Tuesday, the Canucks defeated the Flames. Therefore, by an unsound application of the transitive property, tonight the Wings will defeat the Flames. Great, see you all at puck drop!

No? Ok, let’s dive in then.

Where there’s smoke, there’s sometimes even more smoke

The Flames are on a roll having beaten the Caps, Pens, and Devils and despite losing to the Canucks they still played well against them.

The Wings are also coming in hot (see what I did there) having won our last two games in commanding fashion. Good offense, great goaltending from both Jimmy and Mrazek, and adequate defense.

We’re 8-7-1 and they’re 8-7-0, we’ve both given up 43 goals, and we both give homes to veteran players in need. However, we have a much better penalty kill and a slight edge in offensive output and no I don’t mean from fans on Twitter.

You get a goal! And you get a goal! And you get a goal!

One thing the Wings have is scoring across all the lines, even when players are thrown into the Blashill Bingo Wheel of Doom™. Everybody is getting in the mix with Mantha scoring 7 goals and Frk, Nyquist, and Nielsen each with 5 goals. Dylan Larkin has only scored twice this season, but he is tied with Mike Green for top spot on the Wings with 12 assists. The fake news lamestream media will tell you Larkin also leads the team in PIM with 18 but we all know he would never.

However, Mike Smith is no pushover in net and having fought alongside Jagr in the War of 1812 hasn’t slowed him down one bit. He’s been carrying the load for the Flames and doing a fantastic job, so we’ll need to keep our lines rolling and take advantage of their poor PK as often as possible.

Let’s Go Red Wings!
