Game Preview
The Red Wings are back at it this afternoon after last night where they lost a game to the Tampa Bay Lightning and an hour to an antiquated rule designed to help farmers.
This time they’ll face off against the Florida Panthers, a team in bubble limbo looking very much like they’re not going to make the playoffs and they’re kind of stuck not getting any better or worse. They’re nine points out of a playoff spot, 12 points ahead of Detroit, and 3-3-4 in their last ten games. They are coming off a 6-2 win against the Wild on Thursday though.
Matchup-wise, Florida’s defense is just about as bad as Detroit’s in terms of allowing goals, but they score way more. This is largely because the Panthers have the third most-efficient power play in the league by percentage and have only scored fewer goals on the man advantage overall than Tampa. PK-wise they’re nothing special, but Florida doesn’t take a ton of penalties either.
