Those Wings are so hot right now.

After a commanding win over the Coyotes, the Red Wings are looking to extend their winning streak to five against the Senators. The Senators have had a rough stretch at just 3-5-2 in the last 10 games, on the flip side, the Red Wings are 7-3-0. Both teams are near the bottom in the East, which leads me to believe that goaltending will play a huge role in this game. (great redundant analysis, thank you)

Starting for the Sens is Craig Anderson. He’s the top net minder in Ottawa — contributing to every win his team has had this season. The Red Wings are likely rolling with Jimmy Howard as their go-to starter. The Sens feature a young core of players like Brady Tkachuk, Colin White, and the phenomenal defensive talent in Thomas Chabot. The Red Wings will counter with an equally young team. Another matchup to watch will be Dylan Larkin and Matt Duchene.

When you look at the bottom of the Atlantic, you really notice how thin of a race it is. A win tonight would put the Senators ahead of the Red Wings. The best way to avoid this, for the Red Wings, would be to play identically to how they did Phoenix earlier this week.

The Spin

The Wings are enjoying a win streak, but the fact of the matter is that most of those wins came while chasing the lead before rallying for the comeback. Historically, this isn’t the kind of hockey you want to be playing. If the Red Wings were to replicate what they did against Arizona, they should have no problem winning this game. However, if they choose to get buried and play behind the lead all game, there’s no telling what we could see against any team, no matter what the difference in talent is.

We’ll be back later with your update lineups and key match-ups.
